Strengthening Tribal Communities Through Education: The Power of Partnerships

At Personnel Security Consultants, Inc., our journey has been marked by a steadfast commitment to serving and protecting our communities. This year, we embraced the transformative power of collaboration, forging a groundbreaking partnership with the National Native American Human Resources Association (NNAHRA). Together, we’ve launched the Tribal Adjudication Professional (TAP) Certification program, a pivotal step in enhancing the expertise and capabilities of those dedicated to serving Indian tribes and tribal organizations.

The Genesis of a Partnership: Historically, Personnel Security Consultants, Inc. developed and delivered all training programs independently. However, recognizing the complex challenges faced by Indian tribes and organizations, we saw the immense value in partnering with an organization deeply rooted in tribal human resources management. NNAHRA’s commitment to advancing tribal communities made them the perfect ally. This collaboration has allowed us to blend our expertise with their insights, creating a robust educational framework for the TAP Certification program.

About the TAP Certification Program: The TAP program is meticulously structured to ensure comprehensive learning and practical application. It begins with an online course covering the essentials—from policies and procedures to the finer points of background investigations and adjudication certification. This foundational knowledge is crucial for anyone working within the regulatory environments that impact Indian children and communities.

Following the online preparation, participants engage in an intensive 2.5-day in-person training session, led by experienced educators including myself and our esteemed legal advisor, Richard McGee. These sessions not only deepen the understanding but also provide hands-on experience, preparing attendees for real-world challenges.

Ongoing Education and Certification Maintenance: Certification through TAP is just the beginning. To maintain this credential, participants are required to complete at least 24 hours of NNAHRA-approved educational programs every two years. This commitment to continuous learning ensures that all certified adjudicators remain at the forefront of industry developments and best practices, thereby reinforcing their pivotal role in community protection and enhancement.

First Year Success and Future Outlook: In our first year of partnership with NNAHRA, we have successfully certified about 194 adjudicators, each equipped to make significant contributions to their communities. The success of this program has fueled our passion for further innovation and excellence in training. Looking ahead to 2025, we are excited about the new programs under development and the continued growth of our partnership.

The collaboration between Personnel Security Consultants, Inc. and NNAHRA exemplifies how strategic partnerships can lead to greater impact and innovation. As we continue to develop and refine our training offerings, we remain committed to the principle that education is a powerful tool for empowerment and change. We invite you to join us at our upcoming TAP training sessions and to be part of this exciting journey toward excellence in tribal community services.
